To ensure the safety of Farnsworth students who are walking or being driven by parents, the following procedures have been established Morning procedures for walkers: • All walkers must enter the building using the Ivy Street door. The Ivy street door is unlocked at 8:30 a.m. Students arriving before that time must wait outside. • Walkers are to use only crosswalks where crossing guards are situated. No crossing in the middle of the street is permitted. • Students are not permitted to play on the playground before school. There is no one to supervise them. Morning procedures for dropping off students: • All students are to be dropped off outside the Ivy exit. No drop-offs are to occur in the parking lot or bus loading zone due to the risk of students being hit by a vehicle. • The Ivy Street door is opened at 8:30 a.m. Students arriving before that time will be asked to wait outside. • Parents dropping off students are to park on Ivy Street, facing east (towards Phalen Lake—see map). Students are to exit their cars on the passenger-side (sidewalk side) of the vehicle to prevent them from being in the middle of the street where cars can not easily see them. • If parents park on Ivy, facing west (toward Arcade—see map), students must go down to the corner and cross to enter the school building. At no time is a student to cross the middle of the street. After-school procedures for walkers: • All walkers must go down the center stairs and then exit the Ivy Street door no later than 3:45 p.m. There is no adult supervision on other stairways. • Walkers are to use only crosswalks where crossing guards are situated. No crossing in the middle of the street is permitted. • Students are not permitted to play on the playground after school. There is no one to supervise them and playing prevents students from getting to the crossing guard areas on time. This rule also applies to students waiting for rides. After-school procedures for picking up students: • All students are to be picked up outside the Ivy exit. No pick-ups are to occur in the parking lot or bus loading zone due to the risk of students being hit by a vehicle. • Parents picking up students are to park on Ivy, facing east (towards Phalen Lake—see map). Students are to enter their cars on the passenger side of the vehicle. They are not to go around cars to enter from the driver’s side as it is difficult for cars to see them. • If parents park on Ivy, facing west (towards Arcade—see map), students must go down to the corner and cross so that they enter their cars on the passenger side. At no time is a student to cross the middle of the street to enter a car facing west. • At 3:50 p.m. any student not picked up must go to the office to wait for his/her parent. The Ivy Street door will be closed at that time. We realize that emergencies present themselves, but please remember that after 4:00 p.m. all staff members are officially off duty. Therefore, any student still needing supervision while waiting for a ride would need to be supervised by a staff member on his/her own time. We ask that you be mindful of that fact.
