Mr. Scott Cleland- visiting artist
Mr. Cleland comes to Farnsworth to give us the gift of knowledge and learning with our hands in addition to our heads.  The kids have five sessions with Mr. Cleland learning each one of these writing techniques.

The finale' is creating a book.  Each student sews a student-generated text together.  That is then planted into two book covers and a spine that has been covered by canvas, painted with color wheel knowledge by the students.

Mr. Cleland works all over the state as a visiting guest artist.  He has been to Farnsworth many times and the students are overjoyed to see him each year.  He brings life, energy and enthusiasm to what could be seen as a dry topic.

Mr. Cleland begins the story to help the students remember how to sew together their pages for a book. It is the story of Farnsworth students camping in a tent where a snake visits. Here is the pulp where the students will fill the form to make their handmade piece of paper. The pulp has cotton fibers, recycled paper, dried flower petals, and gold glitter. Mr. Cleland creates the paper pulp using his magical blender and an original song.
"Oh, baby. Oh, baby. Oh, baby, baby, baby... darling." Mr. Cleland writes using a feather pen. The six main colors of the color wheel. When you know how the colors "react" to each other. The students painted wet canvas which was used as their book covers later. Mr. Cleland shows great enthusiasm for learning and for teaching. The known world was centered around the Middle of the Earth Sea, now known as the Mediterranean.
